Off to USA

I've been very busy with competitions over the last few weeks. And now I'm off to the USA for another. On the 25th April I competed in the East Midlands Bench Press Championship, which is an able-bodied competition, and although giving away a lot of bodyweight I came first and also won the Best Lifter of the Competition trophy. I benched 132.5kg at a bodyweight of 47.4kg. This was a new British record for the 56kg bodyweight class. In disability lifting (Paralympic Powerlifting) I lift in the 48kg class but 56kg is the lightest class in able-body lifting.
Then on Sunday, 2nd May at the Annual Dwarf Games in Birmingham I won the 48kg class class with a lift of 135kg.

I'm flying off to the States today to commence a week's training in Indiana with some of the GB team after which we travel to Texas to join up with the remainder of the GB Team to compete in the World Bench Press Championships. This is an able-bodied event so, again, I will be giving way a lot of bodyweight. The aim, though, is to get me used to 'the big event' and not be unsettled by an audience of thousands - ready for London 2012! I shall be very pleased to make 6th place or better.

A few days after I arrive home I have the British Powerlifting Championships in Stoke Mandeville, followed by The British Unassisted Bench Press Championships in Milton Keynes on 19/20th June. Phew! I feel tired just thinking about it!
